The idea of high-level volleyball in the city of Las Vegas, has long been just that, an idea, a dream. A dream that anyone growing up in the Vegas volleyball world learns early-on they must travel elsewhere to make it a reality. They must Ramble on. When the idea of a Vegas NVA team was bounced around in the league office, it caught the ear of Vegas native, and Rambler in his own right, Vinny Rodriguez. His path embodies what this team’s name is all about, and Las Vegas volleyball player in general. He has played for Golden West College, Concordia University Irvine, Blizzard Volleyball, OC Stunners, University of Nottingham in the UK, and finally with the Vegas Ramblers all across three decades.
In talking about the team, Vinny mentions that the cowboy/outlaw image and Las Vegas are closely related. “I wanted to keep the team name Western, but also with some meaning behind it” Rodriguez said in a statement, “I’ve always identified with the Ramblin’ Man songs made famous by everyone from Waylon Jennings to Led Zeppelin, and that’s what I hope this team represents, that restless cowboy always looking for more.”
Ramblers are a mix of guys who played at extremely high levels, and restless souls still looking for their shot. It’s a mix of Southern California and Las Vegas, and we hope this brings some exciting volleyball to the NVA this season. Keep an eye out for this band of Ramblers.
