Ramblers Corral Team Freedom In 5 Sets

 

Set #1 – Team Freedom 25, Ramblers 23

 

Both teams got off to a good start. With the score tied at 4–4 the Ramblers took a 2-point lead after a block point and knuckle kill to take the lead 6-4. Team Freedom rallied back to tie and take the lead at 8-6. Counter attacks with two kills by the Ramblers tied the score at 9-9. A dig and a monster kill by the Ramblers gave them a 2-point lead to 14-12. Team Freedom tied the score at 16-16. Then three consecutive Rambler hitting errors gave Team Freedom a 21-18 lead. Both teams sided-out from each other’s service errors. The Ramblers rallied to earn a point and reduce the Team Freedom lead to 24-23.Then Team Freedom sided out on the next possession with a kill off a block to win the set.

 

Team Freedom – 8 Kills, 2 Block Point, 15 Opponent Errors; 93% Reception and 38% Hitting.

 

Ramblers – 16 Kills, 3 Block Point, 4 Opponent Errors; 100% Reception and 55% Hitting.

 

Set #2 – Ramblers 27, Team Freedom 25

 

Ramblers took an early one point lead. After a short side-out run by both teams Team Freedom took the lead at 7-6. Both teams exchanged kills that led to several ties but Team Freedom managed to keep their 1-point lead and then increased it with some good defense and a kill to 12-10. At 15-14 a Team Freedom passing error tied the score. Team Freedom took the lead with a block point at 20-19 and a dig followed by a kill and another block point increased their lead to 3 points, 22-19. The Ramblers found a way to rally back and scored 2 straight points. But Team Freedom countered with a block point to take a 2-point lead again at 24-22. Team Freedom had a chance to close out the match but served the ball out of bounds. Ramblers managed to tie the score and also take the lead on kill and Team Freedom hitting error. The set ended on a crazy and lucky net play for the Ramblers, in which a Team Freedom netted during a block by a Rambler player.

 

Ramblers – 1 Ace, 22 Kills, 4 Block Points Opponent Errors; 95% Reception and 58% Hitting.

 

Team Freedom – 12 Kills, 4 Block Points, 9 Opponent Errors; 84% Reception and 36% Hitting.

 

Set #3 – Ramblers 25, Team Freedom 23

 

Good play by both teams continued in this set with neither team establishing much of a lead. But the Ramblers eventually took a 4-point lead at 8-4  after three Team Freedom hitting errors. Ramblers killed their run with two hitting errors and Team Freedom rallied back to a one point deficit of  9-8. Two Team Freedom errors and Rambler kills resulted in 4 consecutive Rambler points and a 14-9 lead, which up to this point had been the largest lead by either team in the match. Ramblers hung on to their lead until Team Freedom rallied to score 3 consecutive points to come within one point 17-16. The Ramblers countered with 4 consecutive points to take a 21-17 lead. Team Freedom scored the next two points off their serve to cut the score to 21-19. Both teams side out to 24-22. Team Freedom served an ace to cut the lead to 24-23 and another chance to tie the set on their serve. But the Rambler’s manage to side-out on the next point on a kill off the Team freedom block to win the set.

 

Ramblers – 2 Ace, 16 Kills, 7 Block Points Opponent Errors; 95% Reception and 52% Hitting.

 

Team Freedom – 1 Ace, 9 Kills, 3 Block Points, 10 Opponent Errors; 84% Reception and 43% Hitting.

 

 

 

 

Set # 4 – Team Freedom 25, Ramblers 19

 

Team Freedom took the early 1-point lead. Both teams continued to side out until Team Freedom increased their lead to 8-5 with three consecutive points from good defense and two kills off the block. Several side outs later Team Freedom increased their biggest lead in the match to 14-9; and then followed with a service ace to record the biggest point lead in the match to 15-9. (In the previous set the Ramblers led by 5 points at one time.)  After two Team Freedom hitting errors their lead was cut by four points to 17-13. But a quick Team Freedom rally of three consecutive block points increased their lead to 21-14. A Team Freedom service error killed the run and kept the biggest lead of the match to 7 points. At 23-17 Ramblers served the ball out to give Team Freedom a shot to close out the set at 24-17. Ramblers managed to save two set points but eventually Team Freedom won on a roll kill shot.

 

Team Freedom – 2 Aces 12 Kills, 2 Block Points, 9 Opponent Errors; 100% Reception and 46% Hitting.

 

Ramblers – 8 Kills, 11 Opponent Errors; 82% Reception and 36% Hitting.

 

Set #5 – Ramblers 15, Team Freedom 12

 

Ramblers came out with guns blazing and scored the first 3 points. Team Freedom called a time out to slow down the momentum but the Ramblers answered with a block point to 4-0 score. Team Freedom sided out to 4-1. Then the Ramblers followed up with another block point for a 5-1 lead. Team Freedom rallied back with three consecutive points from a series of digs and kills to reduce the lead to 6-5. Ramblers countered with a kill and block point to increase their lead again to 8-5. Team Freedom counter punched with 2 consecutive points and reduced the lead to 8-7. One side-out later they tied the set 9-9. The Ramblers countered with a side-out, block point and a Team Freedom hitting error that increased their lead to 3 points 12-9. The Ramblers rallied back with a soft touch kill and kill off the block to cut the lead to 12-11.  The Ramblers scored the next two points to make it 14-11. Team Freedom sided out to 14-12 and the Ramblers won the 5th set and match on a block point.

 

Ramblers – 9 Kills, 3 Block Points and 3 Opponent Errors; 100% Reception and 50% Hitting.

 

Team Freedom – 6 Kills, 2 Block Points, 4 Opponent Errors; 100% Reception and 32% Hitting.
